Overland LLP was founded in 2013 by Brad Teichman, Chris Tanzola, and Daniel Artenosi. From the very beginning, the partners of Overland LLP were determined to bring an unmatched level of quality, service and excellence to a broad clientele in Toronto and surrounding communities. From humble beginnings and with Bay Street backgrounds, operating from an industrial building located near Keele and Finch, to our current Yonge Street office, our firm has grown quickly and impressively. Our team of strategic and dedicated associate lawyers and in-house planning resources allow us to serve a full range of clients and take on a wide scope of development projects.
Since 2015, Overland LLP has been ranked among the Top Ten Planning Law Firms in the City of Toronto and in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Brad Teichman, Partner
Brad has more than 40 years of experience in planning and land development, property tax assessment, representation of school boards and municipalities, expropriation, development charges and education development charges, and municipal law. Brad regularly appears before the Assessment Review Board, the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, and the Courts, including the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. As his practice involves representing municipalities and school boards, he is also frequently called on to make presentations and provide advice to municipal councils and school board trustees.
Brad received his BA from York University (1976) and his LLB from University of Windsor (1979). He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1981 and has been in private practice since that time at firms including Thomson Rogers and McCarthy Tetrault prior to founding Overland LLP in 2013. Brad has been a regular presenter at school board conferences and is a member of the Ontario Association of School Business Officials, and was a long-time member of the Canadian Property Tax Association and the Ontario Expropriation Association..
Brad is married, has a son in law school and owns a beloved dog, Piko. Brad enjoys running, skiing, military history, college basketball, and the Minnesota Vikings. Brad and his wife spend time in Florida throughout the year.

Christopher Tanzola, Partner
Chris practises principally in the area of development and land use planning. Chris was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2004. He attended law school at the University of Toronto (LLB), studied Canadian history at the University of Toronto (MA) and history and literature at Queens University and the University of Edinburgh (BA Hons). Chris was previously a partner at McCarthy Tetrault in the Real Property and Planning Group prior to founding Overland LLP in 2013.
Chris has nearly 20 years of experience with development approvals under the Planning Act, the Ontario Heritage Act, the City of Toronto Act/Municipal Act, the Development Charges Act, and related legislation. He regularly negotiates agreements and settlements in respect of land use approvals on behalf of large and medium-sized developers and on behalf of individual landowner and homeowner clients. He appears before the Ontario Land Tribunal and the Toronto Local Appeal Body and mediations in land use planning matters involving Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plan Approvals, Draft Plans of Subdivisions, Consents, and Minor Variances.
Chris has been a speaker at Ontario Bar Association presentations on land use planning legislation and reforms and is a regular attendee at seminars and workshops, including the Cambridge Forum on Land Use Planning. Chris is a member of Lambda Alpha International Land Economics Society. Chris is the principal author of Overland LLP’s Briefing Notes on various legislative reforms and amendments.
Chris is married with three children, two sons and a daughter. He lives in North York, while also spending time on the south shore of Lake Simcoe. Chris’ interests include literature and history, live music, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays. Chris also slowly skis down black diamonds on winter weekends.

Daniel Artenosi, Partner
Daniel’s practice is focused on development and land use planning. Daniel represents developers of all sizes, and routinely acts as lead counsel for proponents of large-scale mixed-use transit-oriented developments throughout the Greater Toronto Area. In this capacity, Daniel advises on matters under the Planning Act, the City of Toronto Act/Municipal Act, the Ontario Heritage Act, the Development Charges Act, and the various legislation relating to transit infrastructure development. Daniel routinely appears before the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, and in mediations related to various planning matters.
Daniel served as a long-standing Member of the Steering Committee for the Cambridge Emerging Leaders and Autumn Forums. Daniel is a member of the Lambda Alpha International Land Economics Society.
Daniel was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2007. He completed his LLB at Osgoode Hall Law School with a semester completed at the University of Hong Kong; his MA at McGill University with a year completed on exchange at Sciences Po (Paris, France); and, his BA (First Class Honours) at McGill University. Prior to founding Overland LLP in 2013, Daniel was an Associate at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in the Real Property and Planning Group.

Michael Cara, Partner
Michael’s practice is specialized in land development law. His clients include a broad range of real estate developers and landowners.
As both an advocate and a strategic advisor, Michael navigates his clients through the intricacies of the redevelopment process to move projects from concept to approval. He has successfully represented clients before the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, and other administrative tribunals.
Since joining Overland in 2018, Michael has worked on intensification projects across Ontario including complex mixed-use developments, condominiums, purpose-built rental buildings, low-rise communities, and industrial facilities. He also regularly represents landowners that require minor variances or consents (severances) in order to build custom homes or create new lots.
Michael was called to the Ontario Bar in 2018 after obtaining his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, he received his Bachelor of Arts from Western University where he studied Political Science. He currently sits on the yBILD Committee which is a branch of the Building Industry and Land Development Association that is led by industry leaders aged 40 and under.

Natalie Ast, Associate
Natalie Ast is an associate at Overland LLP. She practices in the area of real estate development, land use planning and municipal law. Natalie has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal, Toronto Local Appeal Body and Committee of Adjustment, successfully representing clients in land use planning matters including consents, minor variances, zoning by-law amendments, official plan amendments, draft plans of subdivision and site plan approvals.
Natalie was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2018, and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Prior to joining Overland LLP in 2019, Natalie articled at an insurance defense boutique. She attended law school at the University of Ottawa, where she was active in a number of student groups, including peer mentorship programs and as president of the Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights U of O Chapter.
Natalie is originally from Toronto and she obtained her Bachelor of Journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University. Natalie worked in the media and fashion industry before attending law school.
Natalie’s interests include photography, traveling, interior design and painting. Natalie has a green thumb and enjoys gardening at the cottage in the North Kawarthas.

Justine Reyes, Associate
Justine is a driven advocate, committed to providing clients with practical and innovative solutions at every stage of the planning process.
Since joining Overland in 2022, Justine has successfully represented private landowners, developers and public bodies before the Ontario Land Tribunal, Toronto Local Appeal Body, local committees and in mediations on a wide range of land use planning matters, including official plan and zoning by-law amendments, site plan approvals and minor variances.
Justine obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2022. Prior to attending law school, Justine received her Bachelor of Arts from Western University where she studied Criminology and Classical Archeology.
In her free time, Justine enjoys travelling, catching up on new music and spending time with her family.

Rowan Barron, Associate
Rowan practices in the area of land use planning and development law. She first started at Overland as a summer student in 2021 and returned as an articling student prior to being called to the Ontario Bar in 2024.
Rowan represents and advises a broad range of clients including sophisticated developers, institutional and commercial landowners, and individual property owners on a variety of land use planning matters including official plan and zoning by-law amendments, site plan approvals, draft plans of subdivision, consents and minor variances, heritage and environmental regulations, expropriations, and provincial offences.
She provides strategic guidance on complex, multi-disciplinary planning files and has experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of development-related agreements. She has been involved in Planning Act approvals for intensification and redevelopment projects across Ontario, including low-rise residential communities, mixed-use and condominium developments, purpose-built rental housing, affordable housing and block planning matters. Rowan has a particular interest and growing expertise in matters engaging the Ontario Heritage Act and the complex interplay between heritage conservation and redevelopment in urban infill contexts.
Rowan has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, Committees of Adjustment and the Ontario Court of Justice. She also regularly assists clients in mediations and negotiated settlements. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto where she founded the Planning and Development Law Association (PDLA). During law school, she spent a year with Downtown Legal Services where she successfully represented clients in housing disputes before the Landlord Tenant Board. Rowan also participated in a Clinical Legal Education Externship with the City of Toronto where she gained exposure to various areas of municipal legal practice. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts and a Certificate in Business from the University of Guelph.

Daniel Teichman, Associate
Daniel is an associate at Overland LLP, where he focuses on land development, expropriation, municipal law, and school board matters. He has participated in hearings before the Ontario Land Tribunal and the Committee of Adjustment, gaining hands-on experience in navigating complex planning and expropriation issues. Daniel is well-versed in the Planning Act and the Expropriations Act, and is dedicated to helping clients secure their rights under that legislation.
With an interest in administrative law, he actively monitors developments in jurisprudence related to his areas of practice, so clients benefit from the latest legal insights.
Daniel earned his BA with Honour Roll standing in History from York University and graduated from Queen’s University Faculty of Law. He was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 2025. Prior to pursuing law, he attended music college, reflecting a longstanding dedication to creativity and the arts.
Outside the office, Daniel is passionate about long-distance running, dogs, and music. He has performed at numerous iconic venues with his rock band, contributed articles to music publications, and continues to write and record music across genres.
